One of the advantages of growing up with an older morgans is that as you drive, you are constantly scanning the road for potholes and bumps to avoid. Oh so true, SWMBO says I drive the Morgan completely differently to my Audi, she says it makes me a much better driver.....whereas I'm just trying to a) avoid adverse camber, pot holes, speed bumps, things in the road and subsequent large bills and b) stay alive!

The owner cracked the sump on someting in the road, lost oil and .... ..... Wonder if insurance covers that! What kind of insurance would cover such incident? I'm pretty sure you'd be covered by comprehensive insurance in the UK.

On the aeromax, and I would think an Aero is fairly similar, there is a small aluminium lip riveted just before the oil filter.
However, I have damaged twice the filter housing, a piece of plastic with an exchangeable filter. It snapped once, leaving all the oil out in no time, luckily that happened on the driveway of a garage, an another time when doing oil change the internal of that plastic housing was found broken
As well the plate covering the dry sum can be damaged reasonably easily and I change it everything there is a little damage, to avoid oil starvation as the pump is very close
A sump wouldn t give more safety i am afraid and would reduce a lot the ground clearance

I thought a couple of photos would make it all clear. First, from the off side. The clearance is quite good, the little castor wheel in the background is 8" i diameter.. And then from the front, showing the lip and that the sump is lower So, exposed? Yes, but a lot safer than the Roadster. Even so care is needed.

In the mountains we often find stones that have become dislodged and fallen/rolled onto the road. Many times I have stopped to move something from the roadway that could be dangerous. I always wonder why so many people can drive past, swerving to the other side of the road, and not stop to render a small service to other road users by removing the obstacle. Fortunately I have not yet found something so big that I could not move it by myself.
In many places there are nets and other devices to catch falling masses. Every so often something really big comes down and I have often thought that it would be nasty to be in a Morgan under a falling rock.

Falling rocks should be avoided in any car. Glass presents a feeling of security which is not deserved!

I often think about the "warning" signs for falling rocks are the most useless. They might as well read, random accidents ahead, be lucky!

Falling rocks should be avoided in any car. Glass presents a feeling of security which is not deserved! Having been hit by a falling rock I was bloody glad I was in a Volvo. Although admittedly the rock hit the windscreen the damage amounted to only needing to replace the screen - and even then it only cracked it and hadn't structurally failed.

When I was a kid and the first stage of the Sydney Newcastle expressway was under construction a bulldozer dislodged a large boulder that rolled down the slope and over a cliff, then fell on a car from a great height. Doesn't bear thinking about really. About the only thing one can say is that the two guys in the car never knew what hit them. My brother used to comment on the signs "FALLING ROCKS - DO NOT STOP" he used to ask if they went right through to China
