I'm not so sure... Morgans, like many classics, tend to be pampered. Mine sits in a dehumidified garage and will probably do 7,000 miles a year - mostly in the dry. On this basis it will live for centuries.

My Range Rover has 110,000 problem free miles on the clock and lives outside 24/7 and still looks and drives like new. Would a Morgan put up with such tough love?

I am reasonably confident that the Aero based cars are as durable as any other modern convertible. No rag top is really happy living outside, the hoods age and damp inside the car causes problems.

On the basis of present rate of use Tarka will hit 100,000 miles when she is 8 to 10. She lives in a warm dry garage, but goes out, hood up, in the rain.

On top of normal wash and polish, plus servicing, rag tops had two particular needs:

The first key maintenance point is to re-treat the hood with waterproofing material (I use Autoglym, others are available) every spring and if the hood is at all damp leave it up until totally dry, before folding.

The second is to feed the leather every 3 to 4 months. I use the stuff Caroline buys to feed her horse tack, it is WAY cheaper than the automotive products!

Anyway, I'll bey at 100,000 miles she will be worth more than a similar age Range Rover with 100,000 miles on it!!

I think that the ten years quoted is just a convenient length of time for the test cycles. Virtually all modern cars should exceed that age without any problem these days. I suspect that the deciding factor in scrapping a car will be the cost of replacing failed electronics in the future....or changing legislation.

I'd like to see a robot opening and closing Morgan doors and bonnets over a ten year test cycle! They'd probably tear the bonnets off in frustration!

I watched both programes back to back last night, bit of a marathon but on the whole a positive watch. I like May, sorry for the grumps that don't and think Ant is going to be around for years as he knows his stuff and is a natural. As for Kate Humble, I don't dislike her but think she was a strange choice, I kept expecting to see a lamb come wandering down the line any moment.....loved the MMC bit in episode 1, thought the Plus 8 looked epic.

Plus 8s are epic...the "last hurrah" of the V8 Muscle Car. Get one whilst you can.
The black demonstrator in the film is probably for sale.

Perhaps not quite ready to write off the V8 Muscle Car.....there is TVR on their way with their Cosworth V8!

60% of this years UK allocation of the New Ford Mustang are 5Litre V8's - the muscle car has not died yet.

2016 order book filling in a similar V8 manner for the UK market.

I agree that modern tintops do last well and are abused more than our Morgans. However, because depreciation becomes a moajor facot with a tintop there will come a point when the garage turn around and say there's a bill comingand it's not economical to ix it. With a Morgan we just keep fixing them because we can and lower depreciation makes it wothwhile to do so. Hence, they're likely to last longer on average. Just a thoery.

I know, and has been mentioned the Mustangs, with a version of the same glorious motor. But the BMW and Mercedes V8s are now turbocharged.

How long will the naturally aspirated big V8 remain?

Muscle car?

For the purist, a Muscle Car is a two door, that is as light and cheap as possible, and has the largest motor that will fit installed.
