I served my apprenticeship in the Swindon plant from '62 to '68 and life was a lot different - sparks every where. I see now that there is no job for the pattern makers who made the reference forms for the panels. I wish you grumps would lay off James May, I think that he is a good presenter. Hi (Grumpy hear) best thing for Mr May is to stick to presenting then and not try and fool us into believing his mechanical ability extends beyond his mecano set

I quite enjoyed the programmes ...but it seemed to me like a very lengthy TV commercial for Mini.
They must be overjoyed at such a PR coup.
The commercial arm of the BBC in action. What a coincidence that the new MINI Clubman is just being launched! Better not be too critical of the Beeb....I need them to survive....they pay most of my pension!

Mindblowing if you haven't really come across the technology and complexity of a modern car plant before.
After 100 yrs + of continued improvement, refinement and automation of the production process - here we are.
Wonder what it will be like in 100 years time? - hard to imagine.
Maybe a robot will be putting the glued wood into the mould at Malvern? Making a better job of it then James I hope.

Interesting to see that every car is checked for squeaks and rattles. Now that would be an interesting idea for Morgan to adopt! .....not to mention the heavy rainfall booth. Morgan have that - its very big at about 57 million square miles I've done a bit of testing for them - last week coming back from Cumbria
