I have been told that my Aero 8 S1 steering rack has a bit of play. It passed an MOT a couple months ago and has only travelled a couple of hundred miles since.
I have been told a new rack from Morgan is £1830 + VAT plus fitting.
Does anyone know where I can get my original rack refurbished?
Any help appreciated.
Regards Andrew

Andrewr.A reconditioned rack should be around 250 quid give or take, sounds like a plan but try and find out what rack it is first.

Not come across that problem before, you might ask Brian Miller as he is working on quite a few Series 1 cars. Out of interest but probally a different fault all together was that my own car had play in the steering and had the lower left and right ball joints replaced at 28,000 miles, the cost of these £92 each plus vat, then fitting.

The steering rack is bespoke to the Aero
When we raced the S1 in British GT's we found that the plastic bushes that support the actual rack inside the housing wore out. I remade them in phosphor bronze and the problem went away

Thanks everyone for the info.
Simon, if it's these bushes, where could I get mine fixed?
Thanks

Unfortunately the dealer said the ball joint was ok and it's the rack.

Andrew
On the S1 steering racks it is possible to adjust the play on the inner ball joints. Quite a job though due to access required (removal of cooling and aircon rads) but almost certainly cheaper than a new rack.
Send me a pm with your email address and I'll send you back the info on how it's done.
Cheers
