Could recommend a modification that would save time and trouble in getting the engine/transmission out of the machine. A removable rear transmission mount. By removing the rear transmission mount first, it then makes it much easier dropping the rear of the transmission to lift the front up and out. Instead of having to slide the whole assembly forward about 4" to 5" while lifting the rear point at the same time and then down

Thanks for the info JVS Any thoughts as to replacing the clutch assembly with a heavy duty unit if one exists Don't want to have to keep replacing the clutch assembly

Useful stuff JVS - but how many miles did you have on your car to get the clutch into this state? I too like the occasional 'dough' to spin round in the road saving the need for a 3-point turn, but you don't need to slip it that much do you? Worried about mine now.....
Maybe US-style Hot Dogging is slightly more Ken Block than a typical British 'Roast Beefing' technique!!

I have about 8,000 miles on the beast.
I have run it kind of hard doing some burnouts and 2nd gear power shifts.
I will have to go much easy on the machine if I wish the drive train to last up to 10K miles

Traffic/ releasing the clutch slowly/ revving while foot on the clutch abit, all these decrease the lifespan of the clutch

Im on 20k with the original clutch. Still feels ok. I hope it has got legs as a total strip down to replace clutch is so expensive. The car was only designed from an aesthetic piont of view. In engineering terms it is a major cock up and whoever was resposible should hopefully have been fired by now. All the mechanics are nasty and shoddy( our American cousins can enlighten us on the origin of that word?) However I am i intrigued as to what a power shift is? Ther is only one way to change gear up or down and that is to match the revs either way with a bit of blipping of throttle, breaking and / or a combination of subtle brake, throttle and clutch activity. Anying else would presumably be some sort of playing formula one or rallying nonsense bullshit. And yes. Im sure it will bugger your clutch.

For info, I suspect a Power Shift is just a very quick change when going up the box, that sees the clutch re-engaged as quickly as possible, compromising drive-line smoothness for speed of change and overall gain of velocity, drag-racer style. Going down the box should be via double-declutch of course,as every gentleman racer should know  . Or Heel-&-Toe if you need to loose speed too. Either way, I sure don;t want to wear my clutch out, seeing the effort required from JVS's excellent pictorial timeline.

Yes I should apologise for the rather intemperate language. As a traditional British sports car the 3W, ticks all the boxes apart from ease of maintenance. . For anything more demanding I think it will not reward the user with anything more than trouble. The original compensators dont even stand up to use in the Harley's they were used in. How you would beef up the design is a mystery to me. I have never understood the attraction of doing dougnuts or dumping the clutch drag style but each to their own I suppose. Top Gear has alot to answer for and I must say I dont miss it. It would be good to see more of James May doing somewhat more inteligent stuff however.

What bad habits did we learn driving big block 1960s muscle cars? having grown up and learning to drive in late 1960s - early 1970s muscle cars where we would drag race from traffic light to traffic light. You learn how to "light up" (spinning with smoke) the rear tires coming out of the hole (standing stop). Once the tires hook up (stop spinning/smoking) your off to the races. When you hit the tachometer's RPM red line in 1st gear you would power shift on to 2nd gear. Power shifting is not lifting up on the gas as you hit the clutch pedal part way in while quickly slamming the gear lever into 2nd gear making the tire chirp again. Now comes that big grin across my face! It's always been fun having a heavy foot but expect things to break! The Morgan is one of the most enjoyable vehicles to drive - bar none! Being so far away from any factory service has given me a chance to explore in taking it apart, it's not that hard to work on and to understand how everything works. It's just getting the Morgan specialized parts which are expensive and take time. Still a believer! and it's saved me money in not buying another sports car
