Thanks all. I will tape over for the winter and get it done professionally when I move. Meanwhile if you see a parked skoda in oxford stay away as its wired up to the mains now.

I would get it done as soon as possible.

Call Exceldent as they have come extremely well recommended (including Allon White) and based out of Stoke Mandeville (they may go out as far as Oxford)

- sorry, got to agree with MR11MOG here, there is no way that that can be 'invisibly' repaired.

'Chipsaway' and the like are (relatively) OK for e.g. bumper scuffs and minor panel damage but that it is on a horizontal panel,in full view and will catch the light whenever you look at it.

I would run some matching paint in the scratch (which I'm afraid will look awful!) to stop rust getting under the existing paint and clear coat and then get it fixed professionally when time and funds allow....

lateral thinking...a wrap in a contrasting colour, until you move and can get the wrap removed and the bonnet resprayed.

On that colour plain gloss black might look OK.

I really don't understand the type of scum who would do damage like this - makes me so angry.

Chips away could do it, but check your insurance for vandalism cover - I have it and a similar scratch was repaired free of charge a few years ago with no excess and no loss of no claims bonus etc.

Treat the bare metal to stop rust setting in , don't leave bare for any time, rust sets in very quick.

That looks like a whole bonnet respray job.
Chipsaway etc could do it, they use airbrush for small marks and bigger sprayguns for panels. If you have a Chipsaway unit nearby then easier for them than the mobile vans as the workshop would be better for bigger jobs. Van based have portable awnings but a bonnet is a big area to dry even with their infra red heaters!
I would definitely treat for rust ASAP and give the bonnet a waxing to help repel water until bonnet is resprayed.
