Hardly seems possible, but when I get back from India at the end of November I'll have had the car a year.

So, what have the Costs been over a year?

Fuel:
8000 miles, 25mpg, average £1.20/L = £1600
Road Tax = £505
Insurance:
Fully Comprehensive, agreed value £79,000, no mileage limit and including commuting/business use = £645
Annual Service = £413.39

Total: £3163 = £0.40 per mile.

Quite reasonable, especially allowing for the absence of depreciation.

You could factor in the opportunity cost, that is what could I have got investing £65,000 for 12 months? At best 1.5%, so £975, less 40% income tax, so £585.

Grand total £3748 = £0.47/mile.

Or another way £10.27 per day = A good bottle of wine.

I do not consider running Tarka to be at all costly: the BMW cost more, over 2 years, when depreciation is factored in. And I really didn't enjoy it!

Desirable classics?

It's better not to analyse running costs though, just in case SWMBO finds it and instigates the Spanish Inquisition.

I must be very fortunate then. My Nagivator gets as much pleasure from our Morgan as I do. She has also won the ladies section of the DonMog car trial and Autotest.

I prefer to have parts for work on the Mog arrive over a period of time, drip by drip. Avoids any "how much" questions!

15 years ago, 'er indoors advised me to get an old Morgan and do it up rather than splash out loads of money on a new one.

Now, whenever she raises an eyebrow at another package of bits arriving, I gleefully remind her of the fact that it was her idea to restore an older car smile

I have the privilege to have a resident Bank Manager who knows and controls every expenditure. This has advantages, but also disadvantages.

My ex resident Bank Manager left exactly 10 years ago!

Since then I have had a lot of toys including ...

2x Porsche
6 Bikes
3 Morgans

The"new" MrsL loves Morgans - so no issues there either!!

Having said that we have a perfect arrangement ££

We each have our own £££ and also a joint ££

It works a treat - although we get on so well I cannot ever see us falling out over Cash.

But very interesting maths Peter.

I did a very similar calculation before buying the Roadster as it was clearly going to cost more to run than the 4/4

In the end it was very easy to justify ...with my version of "Man Maths".

The £££ return on capital savings is dreadful - so I just decided to drive some of it round rather than look at it online!! laugh2 drive
