re bevel box gears - an observation. I am no expert in bevel boxes or gear types , but I had the opportunity to examine a brand new one not attached to a vehicle recently and was quite surprised how stiff it was to turn over by hand ( i.e. nearly impossible ). Turning the prop shaft input was impossible , and I could only just turn the output shaft. This surprised me - I didnt expect to turn like a bicycle hub , but also didnt expect flat resistance to the input ! No wonder the horses disappear in the drive train !
Does this fit with anyone else's experience ?

So it could be a surcharge of £2K over standard? Less Government £5K electric car allowance. Hmmm would be pretty impressive if it ended up cheaper!
My understanding is that this grant won't be available by then.

That would explain the high running temperatures too, I guess..?

My understanding is that this grant won't be available by then. Could be right if the UK Govt classifies the M3W as a bike. Ref Vehicle type Only new cars are eligible (vehicle category ‘M1′). This includes pre-registration conversions (normal, internal combustion engine cars that were converted to battery or hybrid versions by specialist convertors before the car’s first registration). Motorbikes and quadricycles are not covered https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/plug-in-car-grant/plug-in-car-grant-eligibility-guidance

That doesn't sound right, just checked and I can easily turn mine by hand but of course my BB is relatively quite (September 2012 build).

Nippy, that's WAY too tight. Now maybe there is a figured break in to the box, but that's still not right. When setting up GM or Ford rear differentials, the pinion input is set at around 18"/lb. or torque to rotate the front yoke. That's basically only a thumb and forefinger force to turn it around. Like someone else said, that's probably why the BB gets so hot. A friend of mine has a new Goldwing GL1800 converted to a trike and has all the take off parts. The bike had less than 10 miles on it when it was converted. His rear drive running through Honda's bevel box has just a small .75" input shaft and you can easily turn it over with just two fingers. That's with the caliper still installed. So anyone with a BB that's hard to turn around is going to be in trouble at some point.

Thanks Dan , what you say is what I would expect. You have to hope it frees up rapidly during running in.
