A Plus 4, probably narrow winged.
I'm in the mulling room, and have been there since the Silverstone Classic. Initially thinking about a standard winged Plus 4 but after some serious mulling over, I'm swaying back towards the narrow car. OK I'm not a fan of the Avons, but I'll give them another try and that means another Scottish trip.
I've drawn up a list of bits and the only change so far is that I probably won't bother with tread rubbers.
Things like a black mohair easy up, black interior and stainless wires are a must for me. Apart from that I keep reviewing options. Colour will be anywhere from Sport Yellow to Sport Orange - non-metallic.
I'm just not sure about the GDI - coking of the inlet valves can be an issue - but I have a catch tank plan if necessary. They seem to do OK in Fords, but there are coking issues across manufacturers with GDI's. Some manufacturers also have oil dilution problems. Plenty on the internet about all of this.
We'll see. First lets look at the 4/4 80th.........there's bound to be one.

Why is that Dave? I really rate the Avon ZV5s on my car, a great compromise between dry and wet weather performance , good mileage and great price. I know some compare the rather special Avon CR6 ZZ which is really a competition tyre, but that does have fantastic dry grip , good wet grip , but the price is of course sky high. All the racers use them as their tyre of choice when asked to go for "classic" 70 section cover, or as their wet weather tyre. Seeing them perform at Brands Hatch in atrocious wet and slippery conditions, was a revealation.

Dave, I'm trying out a Provent 200 filtration and catch tank mod to my GDI. Ford say they've cracked the GDI problem but I thought it worth the effort.. i'll see how it goes.

That sounds interesting, Steve. What does it do?

Steve - let us know how you get on with that, with some details.
Andy - CR6ZZ's - from 2014 in the Scottish Highlands in torrential rain. With water crossing the road diagonally, we did over 100 miles 'on the edge'. The car was squirming all the way and needed maximum concentration at fairly ordinary speeds.
I've never felt that level of insecurity with any other tyres, but I accept it was a huge test. Wet Highland roads are very different to a circuit!

That sounds interesting, Steve. What does it do? Tim, its basically an oil separator with a relief valve. What I like about it is it has a renewable filter element so you can see what crap comes out. My logic is if the GDI is prone to coking inlet valves then the last thing it needs is oily air from engine blowby going back into the inlet. I don't like the idea of it being open vent either so this ought to work, plus it can drain the oil either back to sump or to a tank.
