Exact same symptoms when I stopped for gas. Starter would not turn fly wheel. Compensator failure.
What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

Trailered it to dealer. He ordered the Centa unit. During the process it was discovered that the original compensator damaged the main crankshaft so the S&S went back for a rebuild. I picked the car up yesterday after almost three months, many dollars and missed drives.

Mine is a 2012 build. Everything that was recall worthy has been fixed or replaced. The newer models should not have these issues. Do not despair. Leave that to the pros.

So are all your starter problems gone after fitting a new battery? What is the part number please. Is it a straight swap with no modifications required to fit?
