Hi Stan. I'm still waiting. Not sure if this means MMC gave up on "stronger" and is having a more "flexible" set made, or if it is just ... hum ... slowness in sending me whatever they got.

I just got new exhausts and they are the "stronger" kind. I hope when these break I can get flexible.

Much as I wish you well with them I think we all know the probable eventual outcome.
Just how much more "help" do MMC need before they "discover" the solution for themselves and put this issue to bed.

Since it took them 50 years to stop using japanned black, mild steel screws to attach the body panels to the ash frame, which then rusted and split the ash, I would not hold your breath on the Brooklands exhausts.

My 2012 car still has some black screws in various places!!! All showing the first signs of surface rust. In other places the quality of the zinc screws is so poor that some (holding the tool tray) have actually broken.

I have replaced all the screws holding the rear wheel cover/luggage compartment floor into the ash frame with brass screws. I would suggest everyone do likewise, especially those whose M3W's go out in the wet. Mine lives in the south of France and is only used from April to September, so rarely encounters rain.

I would suggest marine quality stainless screws if in contact with aluminium.

I recently replaced my boot tray securing screws with stainless hex cap heads. The hex in the factory screws had started to wear with use to the point where I could not get one out and had to saw a slot in it to extract it. I also fitted penny washers , glued to the plastic tray as I noticed the holes in the plastic were starting to oval with wear taking the screws in and out. Plastic is not a good bearing surface.
Hopefully this will last a good many years and not deteriorate as it was.
Screws are 5mm by the way.

I replaced the galvanised threaded inserts in the wood framing with brass replacements which are less prone to galling on to the stainless screws, then later replaced the screws with knurled head plastic ones that don't need any tools to do up or release.
