The silicone will last about 15 minutes sad to say. Only real-world solution is to replace the rear sprocket with the new steel one on offer by Morgan (Don't drop it. You'll break your foot!) or refurbish a worn-out one at Super Max. I did that last one and like it. My dealer likes it and recommends it as a better solution and cheaper as well.

do not spray anything at all on the sprocket or belt! it gets sticky and then all the dust and small debris sticks on it and works as an abrasive!!!!!! that's kontraproduktiv!!!! keep the belt and sprocket dry and clean it regularly. there is no way of avoiding the noise, except the refurbished super max sprocket or probably the steel one.

Thats what I've seen on youtube about belt driven bikes..just clean regularly & don't use any thing on the belt

The more I read about the sprays, I see that it isn't a good idea to spray anything on the belt.

I've said this before and here goes again. Once the belt develops a chirping noise that won't go away except briefly, either due to spraying silicone or cleaning, it will always come back. A real quick test is to lift one of the seat bottoms and check for black dust. That dust is aluminum oxide that has been ground off the rear sprocket by the belt. Another test is too stick your camera/phone under there and shoot a pix of the sprocket at the front where the belt is off of it and the bare teeth are exposed to view. If it is wearing it will really stick out. The sprocket is anodized and that is very hard but it is also very thin. Once that coating has been ground through then the belt is eating into the very soft aluminum of the casting. Like butter. Once that happens then game over. The belt is practically indestructible. It should probably last about 100,000 miles. Mine ate three sprockets and still looks great after cleaning. It is performing well with the Super Max sprocket. No more dust and very quiet.

You are all very welcome indeed. The contributed knowledge of this site has been the only real savior to me. I bought the 2012 model knowing that there might be issues but never dreaming just how many that would be. Bump steer, Avon side-car tires (!), sprockets, rectifier, compensator and now the thin walled header pipes. Hit them all.

I have a 2012 MW3 and modifeid the BB mounts to rubber (Superflex)
and the noise from the rear vannished. Well allmost;-)
