When I joined the Morgan fold it became clear that it would be prudent to carry a few tools in the car to help with "running repairs". The problem was where to put them since the late model cars don't have tool tray under the bonnet. The space behind the seats was likely to be taken up with holdalls, handbags etc etc. There is a nice space under the spare wheel but I didn't fancy a couple of pounds of tool roll bouncing about on the undertray. However there is a nice substantial plate carrying the spare wheel bracket and protecting the fuel tank. I removed the plate and attached a couple of gutter mounting/connecting brackets from a building DIY supplier. http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/talkmorgan/IMGP0010_zpsarg80flw.jpgWhen the plate was refitted the tool roll fitted comfortably on the brackets and was secured with a couple of velcro straps. http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq205/talkmorgan/IMGP0012_zps6duortik.jpg

The insurance company required that the car be fitted with an alarm (rather ridiculous I know) so I decided to add a trigger circuit to the spare wheel. There is a waterproof long armed microswitch under the spare wheel bracket which is held in the off position by the tip of the securing bolt. Undo the bolt by about 5 turns and it triggers the alarm.
One other point to mention is that there are fuel lines running across behind the metal plate so it is necessary to avoid any sharp points or edges that could cause damage.

Thanks for the clarity. An alarm seems excessive to me I had that problem with my first Morgan until I tried the specialist classic insurers. I did actually approach an alarm company who burst out laughing when I told them it was a Morgan!

When I first got my Morgan & I asked Gott & Wynne for a quote I'm sure they said they couldn't remember when/if a Morgan had ever been stolen to their knowledge!
