Welcome at last!! Keep enjoying TM - and do join in the chats ...we are a friendly bunch..( I hope !!) well most of the time!! As regards the Newborn I would not risk your idea without a seat belt to hold the crib...a rear facer if possible. I took my two home in baskets on the back seat - over 30 years ago but I would not do that now. BUT hope all goes well with the birth in May. I became a grandad this week - and am fully besotted!!

Welcome from sunny Italy. Well not so sunny today but still no rain here since October!!! Keep enjoying TM - and do join in the chats ...we are a friendly bunch..( I hope !!) well most of the time!! And if all else fails there is always the possibility of resolving any argument by resorting to kingpins at 20 paces, at dawn, on the Common at Malvern Link.

That must be a first . Get as much sleep as you can kids keep you up all night . Good luck with changing the nappy and take a deep breath before you start. Are you going to the birth its the most wonderful moment in your life that you never forget . In 1990 a friend in Normog ( all young lads at the time ) his wife was having there 1st child , he was all macho . Liz said afterwards, he was watching the birth shot out the room bounced off the coridor walls and was found by a nurse with his head down the loo throwing up the nurse had to help him . By did the lads rib him .Very sadly she had the big C and no one knew she did not see his first birthday the church was packed with Normog . Hello all, long time lurker and I think this might be my first post here...
I am expecting my first child in May and since I was brought home from hospital in my Dads 4/4 many years ago, I thought it would be great to do the same for my child in the same car. The car has been owned from new since 1973 and I suggested in passing that it would be great to borrow the car and continue the tradition, which he is all for. Due to the low line 2 seater windscreen which is currently on the car, we will have to put the high line, original one back on in order to fit the hood but that's a simple task. I just hope the hood is in good condition as he hasn't used it for many, many years! What I am wanting to know is, what modifications, if any would I need to make to the seatbelt in order to accommodate a modern child seat? The car has fixed 3 point belts in the front which are adjustable but not retracting. When the car was rebuilt in the mid 80's, lap belts were fitted for my sister and I in the rear but times have changed and I would imagine the best place to be will be in the front in any case?
Would I need a special car seat, if so which one as most these days seem to be isofix. I feel I can't have this conversation in the likes of mother are!
I will have to dust off my old 1980's Morgan pedal car for junior too...!😃

Congratulations JD. Check the .gov website above re the laws for child/baby restraints. You could also try a reputable restraint supplier for ability to fit into a Morgan that does not have the new euro standard clips etc. Also, speak to the midwife/hospital maternity unit as they would help too. When jnr had twins last May they had to be assessed for travel home, from N Wales to S Wales.....a long story!....and they checked to see if they were ok in a seat for the ambulance as they were 6 weeks prem born and 2 weeks old before release home.

I didn't think I had been a member on here for so long, so apologies for not introducing myself sooner and joining in. Particularly as I will be joining many of you at Le Mans Classic once again in 2016 (yes I am allowed to go, and I will proably get more sleep there too) Thank you all for your input.
The journey from the hospital isn't a dangerous one, Sheffield is about the slowest moving city outside of London I think - it certainly feels like it and I will be driving very conservatively for obvious reasons. The car is a bit noisier than the average 4/4 due to its twin cam engine and stainless exhaust, I will be looking into a silencer for it.
I think its safe to say that my old man wont be lending me the car for other occasions so 3 point seatbelts in the back wont be required, I have only been allowed to drive it on my own twice in the 20 years I have been driving, and one of those times he was following me!
I am now looking at prams and car seats so I will check out some of the suggestions on my travels.
Thank you once again and have a great Christmas...

And congratulations the first 18yrs are the worst I'm not entirely convinced that's true. Mine got a lot more expensive to run beyond mid twenties and seems to be peaking in early thirties.
