Welcome Philto TM. As others have said join your local MSCC centre as a starting point and you'll soon get to know others on here. I'm not too faraway here in Cheshire. Also, winter drives are great fun - just wrap up warm and enjoy!

Welcome Phil.
I plug the charger in if the car is not going to be used for 10 days or more. I use the cigarette lighter socket under the dash which I feel is adequate for trickle charging, but others feel wiring in a direct fused connection is better.

I have a clock and a radio, both of which have a small consumption, as well as the immobiliser (ECU).

On the issue of flat batteries: I run with the headlights on all the time (actually a legal requirement, or at least daytime running lights, outside built up areas in Italy) and even though the headlights go off when the ignition is off the parking lights stay on. I have twice run the battery down so I now have a beeper fitted so that if the lights are on and the key at "Off" the beeper sounds. As the battery is under the parcel shelf I started the car by connecting to the power input to the starter motor.

A battery conditioner is an excellent idea, but I'm not organised enough to remember to plug it in if I'm not planning to use the car for a week or two.

But the good thing about the CTEK (and other good quality conditioners) is that they are well able to top up your battery charge in a few hours, so I tend to plug mine in if I'm planning to use the car the next day and I haven't driven it for a while.

Unless it's below about 9V, I believe. You then need a charger instead of a conditioner to bring it up to the required voltage. At least that is true of the CTEK I have.

I didn't know that, mine has got a number of different modes, including a recovery setting. I had a look and it claims to be an XS7000, but it doesn't match the current offering under that name, so I'm a bit confused - but then I did buy it nearly 7 years ago, so I guess it's quite possible CTEK have changed the range...

Mine is a MXS-3.6, so there will be differences in operation. Sounds like mine is older.
