Hello everyone, Here's a addendum to this thread-re: the asylum. Someone I knew asked me once what on earth I was doing with a Morgan as they were such horrible cars. I asked if he had ever driven one and the answer was negative so I handed over the keys.Later, on returning after some while ( I had lent the car to him for a holiday in Scotland) he told me that he and his girlfriend had had a great time. But how did you find the car then I asked. "Must have improved a lot". Cheers. Meabh.

Yes, I was told for years by the pub ‘experts’ that the steering was impossibly heavy, the brakes ineffectual and the handling lethal. It was the simple act of taking a test drive that showed these all to be fallacies – at least, with a current car anyway.

I was at a track day recently and got chatting with a young guy in a Westfield. He was bemoaning the death of TVR and I said, "well, we still have Morgan and they are 100 this year", his response... wait for it...

"I don't like Morgans, they give people the wrong idea about what British sports cars are all about."

...he then went on to say, "they also give the wrong impression of British drivers..."

I started laughing - as you can guess I wasn't there in the Morgan so he didn't know I was an owner - and asked what his perception of a Morgan owner was, and what they could possibly be like to sully the image of British drivers to all other countries in the world.

You can imagine the picture he painted but let me just say it wasn't far from this PR photo of Aeroman, Boshly and myself: -




...he was a really nice chap and there was no malice in him; however, when questioned, he too had never driven a Morgan. His opinion was based on being driven around Classic Le Mans in his friends Plus 8 (which in his words "didn't handle, was too hot, too cramped", etc); he had never driven one and wasn't even sure what a 4/4 Sport or Aero 8 looked like.

I've been lobbying MMC to bring a 4/4 Sport to certain track events and let interested parties do a session in it. My guess - and I could be wrong - is that it would win over many and do a lot to dispel the myths of the arm-chair experts.

I had a terribly bad experience at the Morgan factory:
I had, myselve to decide which color I was going to take for my Moggie,
they helped, yes, but then they still had me doing the decision-making, pffff

Oh, and to make it worse, they did not hide all the Morgans (ready or being build), so that made it even worse to decide
the color you had in mind seemed fine indoors but not outdoors etc.
the most angry I am is on that "sample-board" they have: here take a look at the LIMITED colors you can choose from

they really should send you a bill and spec your car themselves!!!
or at least give you the possibility to spec a respray after 2years incl. in the list-price

They must not have Specsavers in Belgium, as you can clearly see Boshly on the left and Aeroman on the right!

Just double checking that bit about hot and cramped... he was in a Westfield?? I can't even fully get into one of those, never mind get bl**dy out again

Graham, Amen to that! I ran a Caterham for a couple of years and while I could get in it and loved the car, I never ever felt totally comfortable- not least because there was always the worry that if I had to get out in a hurry then there would be major probs. However, as a mere 6ft 3 ins, 15 stoner, I have no problems with my 4/4.

Indeed, as those of you who may know a certain midlands Morgan dealer and his son will be aware, tall ain't a problem!
