I’ve just got around to fitting my Fairbourne screen (after it’s sat on my garage shelf for over a year !) It's not too tricky to fit as long as you aren’t in a rush and can afford to take it steady.

As others have mentioned, there is a risk of damaging the paint around the screen slots when trial-fitting the new screens. I covered the area around the slots with masking tape as a precaution.


Also, if I was doing the job again I would grind off the sharp edges/corners along the lower edges of the new screens so as to further protect against paint damage.

When the new screens are trial-fitted you need to mark where to drill the 8 mounting holes but space around that area is very limited so it’s a bit tricky! I found that a sharp 1.5mm drill bit was an ideal scribe for this job.




Final tip: The tiny wood screws that hold the drip guard in place are also very fiddly so I replaced them with more 'normal' (Pozi 2) headed self tapping screws.

The weather hasn't played ball so I haven't driven with the new screen yet. However when sitting in the car I was pleased to find that I can easily look around the screen if ever I need to.

I haven't applied fresh silicone around the slots as mine is strictly a dry weather car and if I am caught out in the rain then hopefully the drip guard will do it's job. This decision will be reviewed depending on how wet my knees get!

I am so anal retentive, that I probaby would have traced them out on a peeice of paper before installing them, should I ever need a replacement cut. But that's just how I am wired...

Hmm, speaking as a two speeder rain magnet owner, chance would be fine thing in the UK. I've got very wet at Prescot, returning from BDC Silverstone and lots more events. I even churned up the grass and turned it to mud at the local parish show with what must have been a 150 yard wheelspin.

It was cold and bright earlier today so I managed a quick spin around the local lanes. I was just wearing a fleece, with no headgear and I survived without frostbite. A definite improvement!

Nice job. I have found the Fairbourne screen a big improvement and it keeps you fairly dry when its raining, at least when you are moving. I know you say your car is for dry weather but that will never work in the UK. When you do silicone the screens, I suggest a small bit of closed cell foam to plug the gap where the central support is to stop the stream of water that leaks in and then ends up on you.
