A twenty pence piece works great as a tool in the oversize slots to open the cell covers.

We got a Varta BMW motorbike battery (Varta 530 030 030 Battery 12v 30Ah 300A(EN) 53030 BMW) for our replacement last year...exact replacement in terms of terminals/orientation and seems to work well. This link seems to have them for sale

I don't think I'd describe my engine as 'hard to start', in that it doesn't take several attempts, just a longer than average cranking time before it fires.
I think as an experiment, I'll get around to doubling up the battery with jump leads and see what happens..

Your lowest temperatures in Kuwait are probably more like our summer high! Mine seems to struggle more the colder the weather. In summer it starts after maybe 5 seconds of cranking but in winter is more like 10-15 seconds. It seems best to just let it churn until it catches rather than (what I would normally do) a series of 2-3 second bursts. I'll check the fluid level and connections next time and see if that makes any difference.

In the garage at the moment, thermometer on wall is sitting at 1 degree. Been in here for an hour, just about to drop the back wheel out and haven't even broken into a sweat yet. :snowlaugh:
