I belive the MTWC is also struggling to keep up it's membership numbers and so maybe the time has come for a reconciliation and merging of the two clubs

Perhaps the 3 wheelers could then be represented with a dedicated group under the MSCC banner.

I have flogged through this post from the beginning and have not seen one addition that describes what anyone expects from the club. Although I use a computer, bank and buy things using it, I object strongly in the ending of hard copies of magazines etc. Kindle sales have plummeted and book sales have increased. As for Facebook, when I tried to get an account they would not believe my name and wanted my birth certificate - so sod them.
I would like to see more technical articles in miscellany and the description of problems solved but of course this needs input from members.

And, of course, this is the problem. We are a group that is big on input from the members but we do it in small bytes and the result is almost instantaneous, but more to the point a two way dialogue.

The two clubs are rather different in ethos. I was for a while on the MTWC committee as I ran the website from about 2006 to 2010. I only went to two committee meetings (I'm deaf so meetings are a problem) and I claimed nothing for the travel. I drove to another members house and got a lift.

Never claimed any expenses either, wrote a few letters but never charged the club for paper and stamps - not worth it in my book.

Only costs via me were the hosting of the site and domain renewals etc. Hosting was cheap too, I signed the club for, I think, three years and got a very good deal - part of which was the fact I paid there and then, and reclaimed the money - effectively lending the club the money.

I think you can see where I'm going.

The MTWC runs a serious spares scheme, Mogspares and you'll be surprised by just what is available. Brake cables, some engine parts, barrels and heads have been made at various times.

There is more, but essentially the MTWC is run by the dirty hand brigade - many members have an astonishing degree of skill with lathes and other machine tools.

I have still not read December Miscellany its on the bench with January . I started to loose interest early last year . If I could pick one up now and again in a newsagent I would drop out don't like the meritocracy that's been around a good while.

That's more or less why I left. All I really got was the magazine and it wasn't that great.

I think this illustrates the pressures the club face. You dislike digital publications: I, on the other hand, prefer them. I no longer buy physical print books if there is a digital alternative.

The obvious solution to my mind, given the high costs of printing and circulation, is to include an electronic version of the magazine in the standard subscription and provide a print version to those who want it at an additional charge.

All I really want from the club is:

1. A better website offering news, discussions, classifieds, an on-line shop for Morgan accessories and rare parts, a wiki for preservation of reference material, a member's photo gallery, etc

- but I can get all this (apart from the wiki) from TalkMorgan

2. Regular trips that involve me driving my car on roads (i.e. no competition) that don't involve dining out or playing golf or going on holiday

- but TalkMorgan gives me this also

3. Interesting reviews of new cars, news from the factory, insights into what MMC is up to

- but MOG magazine gives me this

I don't mind forking out for the annual subscription to MSCC, it's not a vast amount of money in the grand scheme of things, but it's not giving me the things I want, and I can get them elsewhere. Currently I'm struggling to see why I should continue with my subscription, I haven't seen any of the changes we were told were coming.

I have read through this thread from beginning to end and it has been seen by key members of the MSCC FEGP, this group is, in effect, the "Board".

I agree with almost everything said (possibly not Jays Blue Pills).
That the "call for ideas" was sent out with the summary accounts reflects the concern that the FEGP has for the future and the unanimous agreement that change is needed. Much will be discussed at the next National Committee Meeting, on 31st at Nettle Hill Conference Centre.

For the record, membership is stable, not in decline. An advertisement was posted in Miscellany for a new Webmaster who will drive forward a new website that does everything that is wanted, and more.

In today's "blame culture" world all clubs like MSCC have to be a Limited Company. Running a Limited Company requires Directors who are "Competent" and the demands are significant.

The only paid people are:
1. The Editor and Ad Sales person
2. The Membership Secretary
3 The Treasurer.
NONE of them would call the rates of pay a living: all do it because they want to, or at least did when they started.

Everyone else gets basic expenses, if they bother to claim, but not all do, and only for attending approved activities.
