Excellent! You could have a length of ammunition belt to hold the Coffman cartridges

Excellent! You could have a length of ammunition belt to hold the Coffman cartridges Somehow starting the M3W with a Coffman starter seems "right". Not sure how the MOT boys would react. They burn cordite to produce high pressure gas, which turns a turbine which functions like a starter motor. Many industrial diesels use a compressed air version of the same idea.

The 1933 Ruston generator diesels at Moorside Edge radio transmitting station started by admitting compressed air to one of two out of six cylinders. Woe betide you if you failed to start the engine as the compressed air bottle only held enough for one start and failed start would often put the engine in the wrong position. You'd have to bar it round with a six foot steel bar in serrations on the flywheel. A light person would not have enough weight and would need help.
Basically a ship engine from the period. Exposed rockers, oilers to keep full and all of that stuff.

Im sure there is a thread on here somewhere My battery has given up,the ghost. Anyone got any good ideas for a better replacement I just got a conditioner/charger (CTEK XS 0.8) and its manual mentioned it does some fancy battery testing / reconditioning at the start of its cycle. Wonder if that would help resurrect a "won't charge" battery? If you've not tried it it might be worth a go, even if only to give you a bit of time before getting its replacement...
