What car you want will always depend on what you want it for, but owning a morgan is unlike owning any other car, you will get wet, they do leak, they have some interesting quirks but always worth it to see the happiness other people get from seeing it

I Think what Harry meant by that idiom was, if you buy an ugly car or house etc, it will be harder to sell when you come to sell it than a beautiful / smart / tidy one.

Apart from the last few words, you could have been talking about Land Rovers

Ah, OK, that makes sense ...it's, because I know so many people who, when buying cars, spec them in a way that they can sell them "better" after some time. I guess, that's why we see so many silver cars over here.

Not sure about precise residuals for all the Morgan range but here is a real life recent experience. I bought a new 44 Sport in January this year, sold it in June to a dealer as a deposit on another car and got back what I paid for it. The Sport is a popular version of the 44 with a strong demand, especially black versions. The dealer sold mine on within weeks.

Given that Russell doesn't understand freebies, it would seem unlikely that someone didn't take a hit on this deal.

Well I can tell you a little, most of the guys on here are more experienced than me, I have a 1999 4/4 4 seater (why I call myself chris444) Morgans made about 260 by guess of this type of car between 1998 and 2006, £25k should get you one with varying amounts of change.

Why is as follows

1. as a 4 seater it is practical, it can carry 4 persons all of them quite large
2. as a single/2 up car your luggage goes inside, rear seats fold down to give you a pick up!
3. Insurance is reasonable
4. They will fall in the price bracket under £25k
5, 4 seaters are harder to find, only about 1 in 10 Morgans have 4 seats, older cars pre 1998 as 4 seaters have smaller tubs and the rear seats are a bit of a perch.
6. The 1800 zetec E will give decent performance and has huge tuning potential easy to fit a 2 litre if required.
7. Easy to customise lots of bits available, motalita wheels, mesh grill, librands rack, walnut dash, wire wheels, etc etc.
8. The body is wider than all other Morgans, think chassis is is plus 8, later 4 seaters are based on the roadster and are narrow inside, this means even wide bodied owners do not rub shoulders
9. Scuttle is an inch higher so more space under the dash
10. I have one- but no its not for sale.

If this does not appeal well plenty of choice, my local dealer at Berrybrook have a good web site (as do many others) but at £25k doubt you would get a decent plus 8. The 2 litre car is best for balance as a sports car and drives nicely a late plus 4 2 litre Duratec is a very nice drive but will hold value less than a 4 seater - personal view.

Or for the region of 30-35 k, you can have a new styled aero 8 MK 1 2 seats, roomy cabin, 4.4 litre v8, good sized boot and rear shelf space, very practical, great amounts of power, some gorgeously sexy wood in the interior, will hold value well as they are soon to finnish production, aero range is only one with an actual boot, is pretty watertight, roof is fine and easy to go up and down, or off completely. and IMO is soooopppeeeerrrrrr sexy

But not much scope for dirty fingernails or innovative use of Neoprene............

I would add a couple of "background checks" on the person you are buying from if it is a private purchase.

#1. When looking at the owner, good signs are nervous twitches and slightly unusual behaviour when mentioning things like "I intend to swap to a set of nice alloys" as you show intention to abuse their P&J. This should indicate a degree of care has been taken. The greater the twitch the greater the care all being well.

#2. Other odd interests are quite common as you can see from the post above DaveW takes a very personal interest in Neoprene for example I like to confuse my PC and make it think it is a space heater

You rapidly become quite passionate about the car you have and someone who does not appear seriously interested will not have given it the due respect it deserves.

I would certainly include this in the decision criteria as the most important part of Morgan ownership is being involved in the upkeep of the vehicle in the same way you would care for a set of Purdey Shotguns. If they look and act like they care then you have a good foundation.

Mind you a 1000 yd stare and strong interest in explosives would remain negative signs.
