When i signed up to this site i was expecting SENSIBLE dialogue??
It's part of the charm of this forum Ken. Persevere with us, there's a lot of useful assistance on here and a wealth of knowledge......as well as some characters! Whilst I've not got a Plus8 I've had Evans Waterless Coolant in my Roadster when I had a new alloy radiator fitted by Williams. They recommended it and it seemed the ideal time to have it done for peace of mind more than anything else.

I have no experience of Evans products but here's my take on the subject.
Plus Eight's have always been marginal in terms of temperature control.
The heat transfer into the cockpit footwells can be fearsome on hot days. Coolant will not change this as the lump in front is large, the manifolds bloody hot and the silencers transfer heat into the cockpit under the seats. The corollary to this is that a hot footwell is perfect in winter"
Oil is the primary coolant. Its purpose is to transfer the head created by friction away from the bearing surfaces. A 13 row oil cooler will probably drop the water tempurature by 5 a 10 degrees.
A larger radiator will definitely help. There's three ways of achieving this given the space limitations: a thicker core, a deeper radiator and a thicker, deeper radiator.

The V8 in the MGB was known to run warm and similar techniques were used. My first choice would be a radiator with a greater surface area. The limitations with this is that its hard to go wider due to space, but it's possible to go a bit higher, and a greater increase at the bottom. But all of this extra area isn't exposed to airflow, so the gains won't be proportional. A thicker matrix is choice number 2, but again, thicker won't give a proportional improvement because the additional thickness will get slower, pre-warmed air. Probably the greatest benefit from both these upgrades is the additional volume of coolant. By the same token a larger heater matrix, if possible, will also add volume.

Em, as regards heatsoak, I have no one to blame but myself! I'd never considered my car having a 'halo effect'! However, I am running a 19 row oil cooler as well as an aluminium radiator that I had made specially over twenty years ago. To keep temps under control.

Even with all the modifications its still a very green car,I wonder how many Priuses will be on the road in forty years.
