My suggestion is to bulk send Miscellany to Centre Secretaries, and members can get their copy at the following noggin. That might encourage more 'centreship'
The LanD Rover Series2 club mag is every two months, and if there are three adverts in, that is about it. And for only £20 a year.

Would cut the print run by well over 90% I guess. And at that, no point in producing it since the cost to the club per issue would mean the few folk who did get one would be subsidised by the other members. Since I am unlikely to go to a centre meeting, I would not bother renewing my membership and I currently will renew.

You don't count the adverts in a magazine, you count the other content. Does anyone seriously believe that Classic and Sportscar would continue without adverts?

I don't mind the adverts. I would certainly allow members free personal ads for cars and spares. That's the way it used to be and the miscellany was the place to go for all things mog. Since they introduced the charges the private ads have gone down and down and, in my opinion, a major members benefit lost. Its also another reason not to be a member added to the list.

Without the advertisers I doubt there would be a magazine.

Surely though, the adverts should pay for at least the cost of printing? I must get two or three glossy advertising magazines, with plenty of editorial, through my letterbox every month.

The Magazine industry is on its knees and has been since the rise of fast internet and gonzo journalism and advertisers moving to systems in which they can track ROI.

Hardly anyone wants to pay the price a magazine (i'm talking about the WHSmith type) actually costs to make — and no one wants to pay the people to create the content for the magazine in which they want to sell. So magazines tend to be free.

Not that long ago, Factory Media (one of the Uk's, if not the biggest) pulled in the region of 5 titles and then moved the rest to online editions only.

Magazines cost a lot of time and money (if done right) with printing, staff, content, photographer etc etc all taking a %

More content is available on-line for free (we've all clicked a link, followed a thread, click another link and discovered something we would never have searched for) and it can be accessed anytime during our day to day routine.

If you're going to make something in print, first it must be desired, then it must have engaging content and be delivered well. You want to create a souvenir for people to keep.

I for one would happily invest in a well written, considered and beautiful year book publication. Yes it would be old news, but its curated. Were not competing with the Guardian, we're curating and stewarding the stories of its members, events etc etc.

Classified, advertisers et al; could all be delivered in a digital format on a new and effective website or Monthly PDF (with links to their actual product, email address or website).

Also, I'm an exec committee member of a charity and know how much work and effort goes into running these — its by no means an easy task and you have my support and sympathy.

Just my 2p's worth.

Is it me or are others also slightly fed about all this MSCC talk? When I see some change or at least a plan to change I'll commit. There's other stuff to chat about, like Evans coolant or milk...
