Do you mean the cast aluminium part with the Morgan name cast in?

K&M does a nice one for the 32/36 Weber downdraft. I have that on my 81 4/4 Crossflow.

Cheers,

I have the cast aluminium unit. Is that original to the car? I thought that perhaps the circular pancake model would be period correct and if so is it painted black or is it chrome? I've seen the K&N unit in ads but I don't know if it is correct. If the style is correct, I could get one and scuff and paint it. The reason for this whole idea is that I want to show it as it came from the factory in a judged event. I've only had the car for about a year and none of my Morgan friends seem to be able to help with authenticity issues.

Mark, I looked for pictures but I don't have one that shows a 1970 4/4. I doubt anyone will know at your show however. I have shown cars all over the east coast (Amelia, St Michael's, Boca Raton, Hilton Head Island, etc.) and have rarely found anyone that knew anything about Morgans. I think using either the pancake or rectangular one like the K&N will probably work for you. Something clean but with patina. I would simply state that you believe it to be as close to the 1970 factory car as you can get it.

I wouldn't use the K&N that I have however as the K&N logo is pressed into the top and couldn't be masked by painting.

Cheers,

Mark

don't think the cast one is right for a 1970 4/4.

.+8 Now gone for a 1800 4/4. Duratec in bright yellow.

Yes, I think the cast ones were fitted to the very last crossflows and Fiat engined cars(?). An air cleaner was factory option in 1972 when my 4/4 was built but I am afraid I have no idea what it would have looked like (its currently has a chrome pancake type). You could try the Morgan Historic Register mscc.mhr.morganregister@gmail.com for information.

Ray, I sort of think you are right. I was told a while back that it was from a propane conversion of some sort. Whether it came off of a conversion or what I don't know. I'm nervous about showing it with the casting but it sure looks good.

Mark, I think K&N sells an air cleaner that doesn't have a logo on it. It is perhaps shorter than yours. A good scuff job to scratch the paint and a shot of black should solve the problem. I'm thinking that is perhaps the best way to go. One less thing that would stand out and draw attention.
