You learn something every day don't you.
I was born in Southampton but I never knew that Spitfires were built there. No doubt that doubled its value as a target for German bombers during the war.
I left Southampton at 1½ years old and until about 10 years ago, as far as I know, I had not been back. I was astonished to see quite large areas in the city where reconstruction has not taken place.
I must get a copy of the old photograph to see if the building, my first home, still exists. There is a building on the site but it seems to be different to that which existed in 1948.

We've still got them... (Cotteswold Dairy) So have we. Our milkman has quite a large round so possibly not suitable. Milk is the new fish. Can be brought into any thread drift.

When I started doing VAT audits in the mid seventies, milk rounds were highly sought after businesses. With the right locality they made a lot of money, and it was reliable.
Supermarkets killed that golden goose.

Supermarkets killed that golden goose. Even though we have a One Stop shop 300 yards around the corner from us we are happy to pay more and support our local milkman.

Hmm, I love the fact that it was a 'person' that came regularly to your door, but we opted out of deliveries I recall, mainly due to not being home soon enough to stop the milk turning in the days heat. I know it's an udder sign of the times, but the convenience of larger bottles outweighs the deliveries for me I'm afraid.
