Many years ago there was an old warehouse in Chelmsford emblazoned with the name D'eath Bros (removals) Ltd, which I always thought wonderfully sinister. It was pulled down in the 70s and a new Salvation Army citadel was built on the site.

One that used to make me giggle was the one of a company called JPT, which opened an office in France. If you pronounce those 3 letters on the French way, you get the
French for "I've farted"

After the ill fated county of Humberside was created in 1974 Grimsby College of Technology decided that a new name was required to face the new age. Seeking to establish itself as the preeminent place of learning in the county below the Humber it decided to rename itself the South Humberside Institute of Technology, until somebody started to play with the initials to design a logo.....allegedly.

Our flueologist calls himself "Alexander the Grate".

The surname of my dentist, now retired was Cleaver and there was another one in our town called Brendan "Blood".

The local fish 'n chip shop called "Smileys Plaice", and the hairdresser called "Curl up and Dye".

Indeed. Similar to what is now Northumbria University, which for a (very short) while was likely to be transformed from Newcastle Polytechnic into the City University of its host city, which is of course, in full, Newcastle upon Tyne. Oops!

Dangerous things, acronyms...

This shop fitting company did out the restaurant over the road from my pub. It came as no great surprise to me when the job was finished a couple of weeks late,
