Flying helmet every time , I am with Jay on this one.

Back in the 60s and 70s I used to wear an ex-RAF (or was it Royal Flying Core) model , which looked pretty good until it got as tatty as everything else in my wardrobe at that time!

Now I used a smarter back leather model (from Uncle Melvyn from memory) which does the job , and doesn't cause quite as much offence to SWMBO.

Flat Cap, bought in Scotland, Harris Tweed and I love it...Bakers Boy type. When it's really cold I have a replica Bomber Command Fur lined flying helmet that's far too warm unless it's really cold.

- like Colin,a Bakers Boy type cap.

My favourite is a brown pigskin version made by Stetson (very Wild West cowboy !!).

If it is really cold, it's a Carhartt beanie in car matching green or a sheepskin cap with ear flaps.

I like a good hat..... laugh

Absobloodylutely. Pictures of my in my Morgan cap show that it is not suitable at all - so this barely worn cap will probably be going in the For Sale section soon. But that presents a problem of what to wear in the summer that is light and has some sort of peak. Currently it's a pith hemet (I kid you not...) toff .

In the winter it's a fur-lined leather helmet. Bought a new one in Jokkmokk, northern Sweden, last year. Reindeer skin, arctic fox fur and sheepskin lined. Tasty!

Absolutely!!
OK for Chavs in Escort STs...perhaps.
Morgans? No!

Flat caps, possibly flying helmets when there is no windscreen or Aeroscreens.
In the summer a nice Australian stockmans hat, but it needs a good chin strap at speed....

We need to go into the shop on Saturday and confiscate all the baseball type caps. MMC should be outed!

Can't be doing with this headwear snobbery bollocks, I wear whatever suits the requirement best, be it baseball cap, flat cap, beanie, or trapper cap.

I agree with Tim, to paraphrase Messrs Brown and Cameron in 2010.

The key is functionality and the advantages of a baseball cap in summer are that its not too warm to wear, but keeps what hair I have left in place and it stays in place. In winter a beanie performs equally well and keeps my ears warm. My flat cap threatens to blow away at speed, ad my Aussie Stockman,s hat doesn't have a chin strap.

Elegance is hardly an issue - at 15 stone and six feet tall what I put on my head as I squeeze myself into a narrow bodied 4/4 isn't going to make a ha'porth of difference to the overall impression I create. Whatever admiring glances I attract are definitely directed at the car's bodywork and not mine.
