I repeatedly get the check engine light come one with the fault code P0442 - Powertrain evap emissions control system leak detected (small leak).
If I clear the error it comes back a few days later. I've even had some mechanic tell me the check engine light 'glows' when it's switched on and lights up brighter when there's a problem.
Anyone else had much with their Aero 8?

Possibly check seal on fuel filler cap?

I get the same error code on my Roadster. It's been like that for 18 months....every now and then I get fed up of the light glowing and reset it.

Cured mine on the last BMW. Put a strip of black tape over the light.
.+8 Now gone for a 1800 4/4. Duratec in bright yellow.

I have regular issues with the "Yellow Wngine Light" The MIL Light has come on and is staying on: it was coming on and flickering on/off until the car was hot. 4 Errors, but really 2 pairs... The Codes are: P0150 $07E8 02 Sensor Circuit Bank 2, Sensor 1 P2247 $07E8 02 Sensor Reference Voltage Circuit Open Bank 2 Sensor 1 From looking at BMW forums it seems this isn't exactly uncommon and Sensor 1 is the pre-cat sensor, not sure if Bank 1 is left side or right side... I posted recently: some good answers, here particularly from "Spanner Juggler"

Easy to find out Peter - once car is up to temp and not throwing a code disconnect one at a time and see what code gets thrown - then that is what bank is what side - not rocket science

Not an Aero car but my Plus8 (rover v8) has had the light come on a couple of times.
Evap code once..cleared with my OBD tool.
Checks couldn't find any cause , possibly my driving? Too enthusiastic on a cold engine? It happened once after reverting to standard 95 RON petrol after being on Super...possibly the ecu slow to react and learn new requirements?
If away on a trip I carry the OBD reader just in case.
A second fault was " random intermittent misfire".
Again cleared ok and no idea why it happened. Engine ran nicely with no detectable issues.
The Gems manual, if I read it correctly, gave no real clues.
If a serious fault occurs it should cut the engine and light flash?
There are comments somewhere in the manual re this.
At MOT the car has always shown emissions " on the edge", lambda at top end of the range.
Last Nov I did an Italian tune up before MOT....passed fine at jst below max!
PeterJ.....when does the light come on? Straight away at cold start?
Cat and lambda sensors need heat to work properly so perhaps sensors are faulty?
Are they the ones with built in heaters to prevent cold state errors?

I have changed both sensorns on my Roadster 2010 and after a while the light flash again. I have installed a mainswitch to reset the computerbox everytime I stop the engine.

Had the same fault code p0442 with my S4 Aero, seems to occur when the tank has emptied down around half way after a fill. It resets OK and I do wonder if it is if the fuel cap isn't pushed home firmly enough to seal correctly? Now pushing cap well home before locking and all seems OK after a couple of fills.

Only happens in "Sport" Mode, never in "Drive" (Its an Auto, so two maps I suspect.) Anyway, if the cats cool from a period of small throttle, for example 50mh in 6th, and then the loud pedal is given a shove the MIL light comes on. I guess the extra fuel in "Sport" overwhelms the cat until it heats up. With a hot cat it doesn't happen.
