That is why we ordered aircon with our car:)

The current production Morgans have a heater/aircon vent that can be set to blow air into the bottom of the footwell. That is a great help if you have aircon but the air intake for the system does tend to get some of the hot under bonnet air. I have sealed it off a little better but there is a new system under development.

Well,
Some excellent comments, and some entertainment too. I shall look first at the insulating, and, as we have ducted air from beside the radiator already, ways of ducting it cooler. The Extenders on the bonnet catches sound interesting, and having never seen these, will do the obvious google search of same. John's link had ideas worth thinking about too.
Mr11Mog's suggestion of sock removal I use already, so thanks for that.
Tuftie66's suggestion of moving to the UK I would look at, but having had a grandfather earn his DSO in France in WW!!, numerous uncles and older friends shot at in North Africa and Europe, and even a cousin fly Wellingtons and Lancs for the RAF, all to save the UK's arse from Germans, with the assistance of Kiwis and Canadians of course, we Australians now go through your customs as Aliens, while the Germans go through as your best mates.
I can assure you that various quite nice UK customs staff have had this issue pointed out to them by many Australians, including myself and all of the above.
A move is, therefore, unlikely until you blokes are in strife again.
Many thanks for all the kind suggestions, and lets continue to drive the last Brit car, and entertain each other in the process.

Gambalunga, The new system sounds interesting. Assume William Armstrong from Cragside, Northumberland, is designing this next bit of fine UK engineering.

As Dave W has said, additional heat insulation to the bulkhead, and if your car has cats, to the footwell sides and floor.

My plus 8 has A/C, which is very effective at keeping feet/legs cool and if the hood is up, the cabin. But the Aero Plus 8s have a revised heater box with an electrically operated external hot water valve, so it is possible to completely shut off hot water from the heater box.

Also, as has been said, make very sure that the foam between the top of the heater box and the bonnet so that hot air from inside the engine bay doesn't get into the heater box.

Another, rather more complex solution but one which would not be impossible, would be the footwell vents as fitted to 1950s Jaguar XK 120 and 140 models. They scoop in external air.... Not much fun in the UK as they also scoop in water if not shut properly.

Bonnet extenders I mentioned above - Williams Morgan make some. I will post a photo at the weekend of how the bonnet looks when these are in use.

Thank you Graham and Peter. It looks like added insulation and a look at the bonnet extenders. We have the heater top blocked atm, and a 5 inch hose connected instead bringing air from forward of the motor. Could just toughen up a bit I suppose, and not worry too much, but will investigate some very good suggestions above. Peter, thank you for continuing the entertaining repartee,
regarding migration to the UK. Others seem to have gone to ground.
