Robin B'stards!

I don't want rub salt into the wound but my Supermax pulley arrived this week and only cost £94.60 to import and I was peeved at that, as I thought as it was being sent for "repair" it would be returned without any import duties payable, made slightly more annoying by the fact I have a friend in New York who is coming to the UK later in the month and he would have brought it.

The HMRC seem to make this stuff up on the day and remarkably they have the power to do pretty much just what they want. A friend of mine sent a £10,000 AV amplifier back to the US for repair last year and the repair was only about £1500 yet the re-importation costs were close to £4000 GBP. HMRC were not in the slightest bit interested, they just wanted the money. Bar Stewards the lot of them.

Totally agree, if they were running a private business it would go bust as they wouldn't be able to retain any customers.

My car should ship across the pond late next week. I'll have the certificate of origin on Monday. Heading to a tag and title dealer as soon as I get that to see if it goes through. Fingers crossed. I'd pray but that's probably not gonna work for an atheist, right?

Ken, maybe a little bow to Lord Buddha and a check on your "carma"- might help?

Rules on repaired imports within EU

Quote:
My goods were sent outside the EU to be repaired. Do I have to pay import duty and VAT when they are returned to me?
No duty and VAT will be payable if the goods have been repaired free of charge and you can provide a copy of the guarantee/warranty agreement to your shipping provider for presentation to customs.

If you have to pay for the repair, duty and VAT will be charged on the repair costs only.
If the goods have been replaced free of charge under guarantee or warranty, no duty is payable. However, VAT is payable on the full value of the goods because all replacement items are treated as new goods for VAT purposes.

Uhhh...away from the hijackers and back to the topic at hand...lol

So, instead of going to the MVA, I went to a private title and tag dealer, who is "friendly" and knowledgeable. I paid my freakin' $2,700 and walked out with a registration and tags! This potential ordeal may be over...just have to wait approx. a month for the actual title to show up in the mail. Guess there's still some chance for a CF, but it's looking good right now. And according to the Certificate of Origin from MMC and the Maryland MVA, she's a 2016. I'm guessing the first 2016 M3W made.

I didn't pay any import duty on my SuperMax pulley when it was returned to the UK. I guess it's just luck of the draw whether it gets intercepted?
