Good evening to you

Having just had our 5th puncture in 3 years (2 nails, 1 sidewall puncturing object(unidentified!) and 2 valve/to tube joint failures), I would like to consider exchanging my current tubed stainless steel wire wheels for tubeless stainless steel wheels.

I have a 1999 4/4 2-seater with an 1800 Zetec engine.

Could any of you suggest a company who would be willing to exchange my 5 "tubed" Stainless Steel wire wheels for tubeless ones. If you have an idea of cost I would be most grateful.

I have been in touch with MWS Slough who quoted £392.54 per SS wheel including VAT and swapping over the tyres. However, I'm not sure whether you can use a tubed tyre as a tubeless one. MWS would not accept my current wire wheels in a "part exchange". Is this cost "par for the course"?

Your help/advice would be gratefully received.

Alternatively, is it possible to "coat" the inside of my current wire wheels to take tubeless tyres?

I switched my tubed wire wheels for tubeless a couple of years ago for exactly the reasons you described - far too many punctures.

I bought a set of black painted wires fitted with tubeless Vredestein Sprint Classics, MWS supplied them complete, fitted and balanced. I paid £1630 for 5 wheels and tyres, including fitting, balancing and delivery.

I never thought about asking MWS to take my old wheels in PX, I just sold them via TM.

If a company sells your 6 year old wire wheels they must give a warranty therefore that is a cost to be added to any trade in price.

Look at it as if you are the seller and the buyer and be honest here.

What price per wheel would be suitable to you as a trade in.

What price per wheel would you pay for those 6 year old wire wheels if for some reason you wanted the same wheel.

In your case you do not want them because of some punctures you have suffered, therefore does that not suggest they are of little interest to a company selling new wheels.

IMHO these like a lot of secondhand car bits are more suitable to sold on ebay, the for sale section of the Morgan owners club magazine or the for sale section of this forum.

I can not see any company wanting to take them off your hands.

There is a set of 4 wires in the current Miscellany magazine for sale at £125.
I was contemplating them as winter wheels so I could clean my normal ones at my leisure during dare I say winter stand up. Just wasn't sure myself if they would fit Roadster albeit just for sitting on in the garage
Anyway that seems to be about the going for used ones

Would just add what I were referring to were painted. You would probably get more for stainless

I think over £1600 for a set of wheels , that will still be subject to punctures is crazy! I'm sticking to tubed
( I have a set of six that's five on the car and a spare spare!) A new tube is £12.
A new tyre is about £40

I too have had punctures in Autumn when the farmers trim the hedgerows.
Not one puncture has written a tyre off.
If you want to change/ upgrade to stainless that's a different
question
I bought my "new to me" wires (mws) off this very site when a member upgraded.
