I know he was the quickest star in the affordable car strand but choosing him as a presenter rather suggests that they are struggling.

Chris Evans is reported to be struggling to drive and talk at the same time. Maybe I should put  forward as presenter! I can see the whole series coming to a premature end.

I guess if David Coulthard was ever intended to be part of the team, then Matt LeBlanc is his replacement.
If that's the case, then under the circumstances, not a bad catch.

bring back Clarkson, Hammond and May. For all their faults they were better than the desperation replacements the BBC are offering.

I'm pretty sure that the BBC won't want to fall into the trap of making the presenters of any future 'Top Gear' a fixed long term thing.
I also have a feeling that 'Top Gear' will be produced to be more like 'The One Show' or 'Country File' with cars.
All rather 'NICE'....ho hum..

But We Americans don't even watch American Top Gear. Hammond, May and Clarkson have a chemistry that you cant intentionally re-create. Nothing else the BBC will replace it with will equal it's former popularity.
Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.
