Is there any advantage to having a limited slip diff. fitted into the axle of the more powerful tuned Plus 4 or the 3.7 Roadster, if they are not used competitively?

I have a Quaife ATB diff in my tuned 4/4, and I find it to be much better than the old open diff, especially when putting power down early in tight bends.

Could do with one and at the same time will change the whole axle for different ratios .

Absolutely, saves wear on tyres to start. No more wheels spins from the pull away especially in the wet. No more back end breakaway in fast corners, coupled to Avon CRZZ6 tyres of course.

And jolly handy when you're going too fast and you really want to go straight on at a corner!
But really, handy in muddy conditions too.

Before we all get euphoric about LSDs there are few points to consider:

1 The MMC "standard" in the Dana Spicer axle is the friction clutch type, and is quite susceptible to begin set up wrong from the start. Some versions need a special additive in the oil.

2 The Quaife torque biasing diff recommended by Tim (which I fully endorse BTW) is a much better option for most applications and Morgans in particular.

3 The LSD will promote understeer at most times when used with a gentle throttle, this might detract from your enthusiastic driving but it is the "safe" option

4 When you reach the point at which you do break traction , now both rear wheels will be spinning, and you had better be used to this , and good at catching it. If you are , and can , then there is no doubt that an LSD is a great addition to your car and will enhance your Morgan driving experience.

I summary think about what you want from your Morgan and how you drive it. If you regularly go off road then an LSD provides much needed traction, if you compete with the car then it gives far superior traction out of corners, but if you just want to tour around (at legal speeds?) and are a fair weather driver, you might not get as much from it.

My 3.7 has the MMC LSD.

It seems to work really well....for me anyway.

The power really goes down well under heavy acceleration... without the hint of wheel spin.

No probs cornering or exiting bends either...so far!!

I may be mistaken but I believe that all Plus 4's get this as standard?
Mr Bumble has an LSD.

Both my Plus 8's have had them and the Sport didn't and it showed.

I think all the MMC Limited Slips are Quaife. I have a spare Salisbury 7HA +8 axle and it has a Quaife Limited Slip.

However My +8 Bitsa has a Chevy Pickup Dana Rear Axle with Auburn Limited Slip. This is what Andy G. Is warning You against. It is a crude spring/metal plate gismo and I should not have it in My +8 for the reasons Andy G. explained. It has not caused Me any problems so far, but if I was a more "Performance Driver" it could be a problem. Maybe good in the mud and snow but that is about all.

Quaife is another story. Super Deluxe well designed unit I am told by those that know.
