Fitted a new Westco battery today which has 400 CCA compared to the Banner's 300 CCA. The M3W started easily.

However as usual with Morgans nothing is straight forward. According to the data sheet the Westco was the same width as the Banner battery, however the Banner battery is about 3mm narrower at its base and the battery tray in the M3W is made to be quite a snug fit, consequently the Westco battery would not fit in the tray so I had make an adaptor with a bit of plywood and Aluminium angle, new battery clamps also had to be made.

Good news Rog - seems to confirm the stock battery is a bit marginal on CCA.

So topping up hasn't made any difference but put the jump start pack on and it fired almost before it started turning over.

A new battery sounds like the answer and I might bite the financial bullet and go for the Lithium one.

Chris if you are planning on using a battery conditioner when not in use, the Lithium battery requires a different type of conditioner to the existing battery.

Thanks Roger,

My garage has no power so I can't use a battery conditioner.

I assume I don't need to make any changes to the car charging system?

I believe there are solar powered battery minders, is this a possibility. Try caravan equipment supplies.

.

Just checked ours also. Needed to fill water as well for both. So far as I know, once the plates have been dry they don't work anymore on that part of the plate due to the corrosion. That's why the power drops even when fully charged.
