I think the length and width dimensions given in suppliers literature refer to the maximum overal dimensions of the top of the battery. Depending on the size of the step to the body and the draft angle of the body moulding, the dimensions at the bottom of the battery may vary considerably.
This would account for the problems Rog G experienced with a battery he believed to be the same size as the standard Banner battery.
I measured the length and width of my battery close to the bottom and the sizes were 180mm x 120mm and it is a pretty close fit in the existing tray.
This may explain why some of the so called equivalents given as 187mm long x 127mm wide do not fit into our battery trays.

EXIDE BIKE Factory Sealed 30Ah, 12V, AGM12 worked like a charm only a little shorter in length.

Fitted today and all very straightforward. It's the same width and about 20mm shorter so drops straight into the battery tray. At 2kg it feels ridiculously light compared to the lead one. Fired up really easily but the real test will be the next cold start. Then the "joy" of the M3W hit! Taking it back to my garage I got to the end of our close and it cut out. Suspected low voltage as I hadn't charged it - It was turning over fine but voltage was a bit low. Clipped on the boost pack and it still turned over fine but I realised there was no noise from the fuel pump. Suspecting fuel pump failure I did a quick search on here and one tip was to check the inertia switch. Checked and this had popped so reset and it fired up straight away. Phew

Further to my earlier post where I considered fitting a second battery wired in parellel with the original, I have now done this and have attached the photo below for reference. These batteries are each 30Ah with a CCA of 350. The 2 together therefore amount to 60Ah with a total CCA of 700. Needles to say, the engine turns over very quickly and starts within a few seconds of the first press of the starter button. I know this is extra weight to carry but having been unable to start the car recently on the original (now 3 year old) battery, I am looking for reliability (if this is possible anyway with the earlier M3Ws) and if my 0 - 60 time or top speed has been reduced slightly because of the extra weight, it will not worry me.

That looks good Keith. It wouldn't work for me though as I have a tool box in that space which carries tools and a crash helmet.

Pedant hat on  its best policy to draw current diagonally from paralled batteries to offset the effect of the minute extra contact resistance, which will carry greater significance when a high starter current is drawn. This allows power to be drawn equally from each battery. In this case taking the positive or negative feed from the opposite battery would achieve this.

Fitted 24 volt to my RS2000 rally car, after a few weeks it knocked the starter ring off the flywheel.
.+8 Now gone for a 1800 4/4. Duratec in bright yellow.

Nice installation. Have you considered a Hybrid system using all that extra battery power to restore the lost performance due to the extra weight?
