I will be in the UK for the Goodwood members meeting in March and wondered if anyone new what a pair of 96 +8 rear springs might weigh , thinking of checked baggage which is limited to 50lbs per bag , Also would appreciate recomendations as to any vintage motorsport events the weekend of the 27th of march . Thanks Dave
Dave. As an alternative to the original springs you may like to consider a set of Suplex asymmetrical 4 leaf springs. The 4 leaf springs are more supple than the original 5 leaf springs and the asymmetrical design is a relatively new design, from Dan White of Suplex, that reduces axle tramp.
If you wish to contact Dan,an enthusiastic Morgan owner, send me PM and I will send you his contact details.

I didn't think this was a new idea, I remember my friend putting some on his MGB V8 in the 70's. They had a limited life due to loss of Spring stiffness.

Buggered Off, to a modern none leaky car, heart's still ticking
The parabolics sold for the MGB were single tapered leaf and not strong enough for the V8. They were based on R V8 springs so later than the seventies.

The springs I mentioned are not tapered (parabolic) leaf springs. They are ordinary 4 leaf springs similar to the springs fitted to the 270 hp Roadsters by Morgan but with a major part of the leaves biased towards the front in order to reduce axle tramp (wind up).
I believe that they are available from Morgan and a number of dealers.

About 30 lbs. I have both 5 leaf and 6 leaf +8 springs. You can have a pair free. Seems when My friends switch to the 4 leaf springs they give them to Me.

So would the Mulberry Tramp rods do the same thing as the 4 leaf springs?
The standard springs (non asymmetrical) would certainly benefit from anti-tramp rods on a powerful car. The new Suplex asymmetrical springs are much more resistant to tramp but I can't comment as to whether or not a powerful car, such as the 270hp Roadster, fitted with the asymmetrical springs would benefit from the fitting of an anti-tramp rod. It probably depends on driving style.

I recently road dyno My +8 Bitsa 3.5. Maybe 160HP at the flywheel. Not much more. I removed PM's tramp rods because they were not needed. I think others are going for the 4 leaf for ride comfort. I think I would rather spend this money on a "coil over". However; it will not be Suplex. Local Hot Rod shop will make one (trailing arm) for much less money than Suplex. Now will it be better? Hard to say, but the one I drove was pretty nice.
Fantastic responces guys while in the UK i will have a look at the asymmetrical springs , Button , looks like i need to add Seattle to a road trip and see what you are up to . The reason i am looking at springs is to improve the ride with a more supple suspension and to lift the rear slightly as its settled over the years . Axle tramp has never been a problem even though i tend to drive like an adolescent hooligan and my car was dynoed at 280 HP at the wheels Dave
