I would think the 'gnats bollock' is quite a bit larger Do Gnats have whiskers?

A tad more is more than a gnats.
A smidgeon is probably between the two.
We used to love teasing a fellow crew member on a boat I used to race on about how many tads there were in a smidge (as he was always asking for the kicker to be let out a smidgen, or the halyard to be taken up a tad).

And when i was working as contractor to the GPO, installing ventilation fans that had serious moving parts i was introduced to ...."The British Standard Finger"....Apparently there was such an item that must not be able to be poked through a guard enclosing a moving part. The mind boggles!!
