I can see it all now, a EV3 with a trailer behind and on that trailer is a gas generator. Stop and take a pee brake at the same time fire up the dynamo and plug in the cord and magically you have another 50 miles of go juice... Could look out for a small flat twin to go in the boot or perhaps there is space under the cowl as no oil header there.

Dan, that would need to be some big dynamo to supply the Watts output needed.
From my college days 746 Watts was equivalent to 1 horse power (not allowing for any losses), so the generator would have to be huge.

If the "get-you-home" generator in the trailer was large, as it would have to be, perhaps it could be driven by a 2 litre V Twin petrol engine

From my college days 746 Watts was equivalent to 1 horse power (not allowing for any losses), so the generator would have to be huge. I would think that a 3kw or 4kw would work for 220v charging. These generators are used a lot in motorhomes over here and are powered by flat twin Onan 20 hp or now the Kohler V-twin gas or LP gas power. But necessity is the mother of invention. When the need is great enough, people find a way to make things happen.

Dan I think I would have tried regassing the A/C before going for the fridgidair set up. Must make terrible wind noise on the move.

So, just 10 will be produced this year for the UK and Netherlands, if I remember correctly. Once the niggles get worked out, it will get wider distribution.

I agree and worse is that typically a batteries capacity after peaking during the first few charge/discharge cycles, then starts a slow downhill run on capacity. That 75 mile safe radius is going to diminish.
Certainly a vehicle that has a restricted range is never going to sell to people who require an unrestricted range, but real-world evidence of battery life coming from cars out there being used seems to suggest that battery life can be expected to be much greater than the doom and gloom merchants would have us believe. There are plenty of 10 year old 100k+ mile Priuses (Prii? Prions?) out there with perfectly healthy batteries, greatly exceeding original predictions. My guess is that a 75-150 mile range is going to be fine for many potential EV3 owners.

Prius' are NiMH battery tech. Pure EVs like the EV3 use LiIon. A better question might be: how many laptops are still running on their original batteries after a few years? My guess is that a 75-150 mile range is going to be fine for many potential EV3 owners. I'd turn that round: EV3 owners are going to have to be fine with a 75-150 mile range!
