Thanks to everyone from Alis and myself. Alis is particularly feeling it because Erba has been her shadow for 17 years, from a little puppy that could be carried in a pocket to the dog that came to share a digestive biscuit for breakfast every morning or the roast chicken from the market every Monday evening. In fact in the last few years we often thought that she kept going just so that she wouldn't miss out on the roast chicken every Monday  There are an awful lot of memories there. In fact the first photo of us all together as a family includes Erba (she was already 4 years old when I arrived). She always went nearly everywhere with us and it was only when we went overseas or started going away for long trips in the Morgan that she was left at home.

I'm sorry for your loss, Peter. We have two black spaniels and they have become the centre of our family life - I can only imagine how I'd feel if anything happened to them.

Sorry to read about that Peter... our cat of 19 years had to be put down a couple of weeks ago. Always so upsetting to lose a member of the family.

Sorry for your loss, Peter and Alis. Me and my wife have a mini-daschund, Lola, four years old and, as Graham said, she is a member of our family and we love her as such. She's more, much more than a pet for us, she's the daughter we never had.
You, Peter, put it all in a very simple but beautiful sentence: "the destination was unimportant, to travel was the thing". Well, amigo, she started this travel way ahead of you and rest assure that she have found a good spot to wait for you and Alis. And I'm sure she'll be wagging her tail until the three of you meet again.
