Most of the wealthy folk I know are mini economic centres - employing staff, gardeners, carpenters etc etc. I'm not sure they'd see it as their duty as their tax contribution is far greater than most (so they're fulfilling their duty in that respect) - but as it happens, they do spend huge amounts within their local economy.

This is quite true. I don't know any wealthy people personally, but a few of my self-employed friends (garden design, florist, carpenter, electrician, dry-stone waller) are grateful for the fact there are plenty of rich people around Gloucestershire.

They are a good source of local employment, and according to one of my mates, what's even better is that they sometimes don't think very hard about exactly what they want. He spend 3 months at £250 a day building a garden feature for one local bazillionaire. When it was finished, the response was "I really like it, but could you move it over there please?" Another 3 months steady work.

Keith you are a man after my own heart. I have a dozen nice fountain pens and a similar amount of watches.. But now only one Morgan and one pretty girl . Age and financial constraints have had their way.. laugh2

That may well be a duty. What I'm saying is that the issue is between a man and his conscience (or between a man and his God) and it's not for us as other equally fallible men to judge........

I must admit though that I do benefit from rich customers keeping me busy and sending me money in the process. Should I be criticised for accepting their money to fund my Mog, for instance? It seems a bottomless pit of an argument to me smile
