Hi, I'm thinking of replacing the battery in my 1969 4/4 1600. It's been running fine for years on a Halfords job but is there a better (more appropriate) type. Thank you for your help. Paul

My Austrian "Banner" works usually for +/- 14 years. I was told an "Optima" would have an even longer life and more starting power. The one in my Sebring is 5 years old an has never seen service and works fine. I don't know if Banner are available in GB.

Halford only sell cheap batteries at an expensive price. I put a 320ah in mine , much better cranking speed than a 260ah ' standard' battery.I got mine from a local motor factors for a trade price , not halfords

I had Halfrauds in my previous two cars as the batteries packed up about a week on buying them second hand. The both lasted the ownership of the car on a CTEK. The last one over 7 years.
I bought on size to fit the tray.

I replaced my 4/4 battery with a Halfords one of same dimensions and output. Dimensions that would fit the car and not necessitate alterations. Output to match engine/car requirements re Ah and cranking output. Ctec also used to keep it in good nick, especially in winter with lower mileage. The plus8 I now have came with an Odysey battery installed. Impressive battery and Ctec protected. Don't know its age but after 3 years of ownership still going strong.

Plymouth battery centre who are very knowledgeable and honest..... Recommended a Duracell for my roadster, fits the tray and as the car is not used every day and sits in a garage without power albeit I have built a solar charger. So far so good. They also sold me some batteries for my boat, they do not always recommend the most expensive. The Duracell caused amusement at Perranwell when they rebuilt the car on a new chassis after my spin.

Odyssey, +1. Expensive but a superior battery.
