After 3 years, most of it on a Ctek battery conditioner, my original Starting Bull battery has died. It only managed about 4 or 5 seconds cranking before slowing down considerably. After reading this thread I decided to go for the Magneti Marelli BK 53034. Thanks drk and Chris99 for the info, it takes a lot of the research and guesswork out of it.

Installation is easy, it's a little less in length and it fits in the tray perfectly with only the terminals being 90 degrees out from the Starting Bull ones. The supplied spacers help position the terminals clear of the case. I cut a bit out of the retaining strap to clear the test button and condition indicators, it should still be more than strong enough to hold this lighter battery in place. Cannot believe how light it is, only 1/4 of the original. The starter spins over with no slowing now and the engine fires up quickly from cold. Hopefully this battery will last much longer, it needs to at that price! No more need for the Ctek, although the battery information says you can use a standard maintainer. Some photos for size comparison below.

I'd be a bit wary of using a smart maintainer like the CTek - it tests the voltage of the lead battery to try and deduce its condition. Probably the LiIon's electronics won't respond correctly or understand that interrogation...

Thanks for the warning, this was mentioned earlier as well, so I wasn't intending using the CTec. The information with the battery says it should maintain its charge for several months without use and will recharge quickly when used. I have a standard charger that will supply the 14V to 15V it needs if required.

Yes, I have some old 18650 laptop cells that haven't been charged since 2004 and are still good enough for testing... Li-Ion can be pretty long-lasting!
