5. Mechanical not Quartz - only because I'm a bit of a watch snob and I like things mechanical and will happily suffer poor timekeeping rather then have a Quartz watch movement which can cost as little as 10 pence to make
Thats illogical. You want a watch for daily use and messing around with the Morgan. In other words as a tool not as an ornament or a treasured posession. So the only function of such a watch is to tell the time so why have one that does that one job badly. Its like having a blunt knife or an unreliable car.
My every day watch (I actually seldom wear a watch these days) is a Citizen Eco-Drive. The name Citizen doesn't do anything for me but it is not a bad looking watch and simply works. As long as it gets some light and is not shut away in a drawer.
It keeps accurate time and never needs winding or batteries. I have had it for about 12 years and the only time it stopped was when I put it in a drawer whilst away for about 6 weeks. A few minutes in the light, re-set the time, and away it went.
I wonder why all items with timepieces do not receive the off-air time signal. Heating timers, car clocks, cookers &c. The receiver/decoder chip is cheap enough and implementing it in a clock design is not difficult. It would just save so much hassle having to reset all these electronic clocks on a periodic basis. Meanwhile, my watch is a Russian made self winding device guaranteed accurate within 1m per day. Usually it is about 58 or 59 sec fast per day...

Here is my two-penneth about my watches. 44 years ago I bought a Rolex date while in the Navy, I bought it in Dubai and paid £120 for it, I still have the receipt and box. This watch has been used in very harsh environments and has had a hard time. Ships engine rooms, steelworks and in over 44 countries including Everest base camp.It has been serviced 3 times and has never let me down. The last time I sent it for service I was quoted quite a long lead time, I decided I couldn't wait so I bought another Rolex a Yachtmaster, another beautiful reliable watch. Eventually the other one came back, It is as new, I couldn't believe how good a job they had done of it. Actually I haven't worn it since as I now wear the Yachtmaster continuosly. I always wear my watches all the time 24/7. So the point is I wouldn't be without my Rolex, my experience with them is an excellent one, I'm sure after my days my grandchildren will continue to wear them. As with cars and most things choice is down to personal taste.

That's great to hear Peter and yes Rolex do a fantastic job when they service and refurb the case
They take every bit of the movement apart and sonically clean all the parts - put them back together and relube
