If you do not apply the handbrake and put the car in first, or park, it is a licence test fail in NSW. I always use both, as an ex licence examiner (all be it motorcycle, but I had to do the course), even in the garage. Habit, I guess.

My first Triumph Dolomite had a rubbish handbrake. I don't know how it ever passed the test.
They used to go out on the road with a Tapley meter. Remember that?

They still do if you have a LSD. Think its digital now.
