No reason with a tank why you can't have a sight glass on the tank or even a remote fluid level indicator in the cockpit

50 engine hours seems very little to me. On a boat that is running for say 8 hours a day that is a little over 6 days. It means changing the oil after a week.

It's what the book says Peter! And the oil is quite black when it comes out. Only takes 2 pints, so not expensive.

And with just the one cylinder, I'm keen to ensure it's happy in its work!

50 hours takes about 3 months in the main season, so not too onerous. If I were on the Norwegian Fjords, I think I'd be content to change the oil each weekend.
