Fullhoza

I've found my book and I'd say that if it was for sale at the right price, it would be worthwhile asking the MTWC Registrar what they have on it. To do this, at the bare minimum, you'd need the UK registration. Ideally added to that, the chassis number and the engine number. The fact the car is sporting a 70 years badge suggest either it has been around a while, or somebody wants you to think that.

Reason being, the car could be a 1932 one, although if so, a very narrow range of manufacture dates from October 1932 to December 1932 as with that drop (book says an inch, not 1.5") it would make the car a 33 model. (My late night memory fails me - not a 35 at all).

JAP engines were catalogued then, but I don't know how many were made with sidevalve ones. Can't tell from the photo what the bodystyle is, but a Sport Family would be both a possibility if the engine really was original, although I still doubt it.

Got any more photo's? Does get a bit of interest going.

Also single D shaped cut away in the bonnet/"neck chopper" panel would also point to 1932. 1933 and later moved to two D shaped cut aways, one behind each other.

Also check if the bottom chassis tubes are extensively drilled between the engine plates as this could indicate the chassis started out life as a Family model (used the bottom chassis tubes as part of the exhaust system)

Many of the less desirable Family and Sports Family models were rebodied into Super Sports.

That engine with JAP above the magneto drive could be pre-1920, the lack of starting handle provision surely means the car is a Two-speeder and the windscreen looks like an Aero or Super Sports Aero type, pre 'V' screen.

Back in the fifties and sixties when the cars were still being used as every-day transport by many, all sorts of cannibalism and modifications were carried out just to keep the car running. Serviceable engines changed hands for a fiver and could be swapped in an afternoon.

It's probably a mix of several cars but does that matter?

I've been talking to Fullhoza privately and do have some more pictures. Engine is not a really early one, and I suspect a 1926 example although the engine number I have is not a complete one.

Yes, the engine as fitted is for a two speeder with the crank handle turning the cross shaft. As for speed of swapping engines, the hard bit is the exhaust if you are swapping engines of different types. Another engine of the same type though is easy with an assistant, 30 mins might do it, but probably won't as the chances of having to re-make the propshaft length are too great.

The late fifties and early sixties are the danger years for originalty. There were a lot of cheap second hand spares, and owners either weren't too particular, or had some very strange ideas about improvements! The correct stuff was available too.
