I had this problem a couple of years ago - it was the sender at fault - replaced it then fine for a couple of years - it has just started happening again - although a couple of long journeys seem to have sorted it. I was told not to worry as on my Ford engine it is unlikely to be anything wrong. It just seems strange that the pressure shown seems to bear no resemblance to what the engine is doing. But HEY! - they`re Morgans!

As Mars is a long way from us perhaps the pressure difference is no bar to using the car.
Here for a good time not a long time!! Reg

I had a similar problem on a 2006 Plus 4. Oil Pressure Gauge would wander up to the top of the scale and sometimes off it in a random fashion. The previous owner said it had been like that since new, he had it checked out by his dealer but was told it was fine and nothing to worry about - and as the engine ran fine he let it be.
I wasn't entirely happy and changing the oil pressure sender unit cured it on my car.

I had a similar issue last year on my Plus8. There are 2 oil pressure senders and the one to the gauge was playing up. From cold it showed correct psi but after a couple of miles it went way up to the top of the gauge. Always ok from from cold but when some heat got to the oil it resulted in this happening. Simple job to replace and now ok. The engine has a second pressure sender for the ecu so no worries with oil as the ecu would have shut the engine down if pressure dropped. For the V8 normal psi is about 40 psi or 3 bar. It drops to just above 15psi(1bar) on idle which causes worries until you realise that is normal!

My 1999 +8 goes to 5 bar and doesn't shift much below that even when idling.

My Plus 8 reads maximum of 4bar running. Cold tickover 2Bar and Hot tickover 1.5Bar. My previous Plus 8 had similar readings.
I'm pretty sure the pressure relief valve operates at 4Bar anyway.
