In a gap in the the showers today I took my 1972 4/4 out for a quick blast along the A272. Coming back I felt the accelerator pedal become very light,failing to return to the at rest position when I took my foot off.

It looks to me as though there should be a spring mechanism behind the pedal, about half way along its length that creates a positive return, but all that is left of the spring is a couple of bits hanging down.

My Morgan Four Owners Workshop Manual doesn't cover the accelerator pedal and I can't find any reference on Morganatica.

Does anybody know whether this is an easy fix and if so any idea where to source the part, please?

It's an easy fix. Withdraw the clevis pin that forms the throttle peddle pivot, remove the broken bits, replace with a new spring and, as they say, assembly is the reverse procedure to dismantling.

Melvyn Rutter stocks the spring - its shown as being for mid 1980's car but fits the earlier ones.

I found its easier if you take the pedal assembly off the car car to do the job (and you can lubricate the cable whilst you are at it)

Mark and I didn't tell you that you need the flexibility of a snake to get into the footwell and the arms of an orangutan to remove the pedal assembly.
