I've got the urban cooling kit fitted to a 2013 model.
My experience is positive. I sometimes have city drives with stop and go traffic. Even at high summer temperatures I never experienced temperature problems.

I had the kit fitted to my 2012 model . The car had gone into skip fire mode a few times , usually after fast motorway driving followed by a slow queue .
I found the fan strangely reassuring when it cuts in . Personally I don't mind the look of it as it hides away everything between the cylinders .

I had it fitted as mine had gone into skip fire a couple of times in traffic and it seemed relatively good value.

Since then I've not worried at all about engine temp.

I'm happy I had it done.

I added a set "Love Jugs" to my M3W. I have a manual switch and turn them on when sitting in traffic. Skip fire used to happen in those situations and it no longer does. They are much less obtrusive than the factory kit. There are several good write-ups on the list about installation and results.

These engines are also in use on som motorcycles, standing sideways. And similar designs are found on Harleys and other brands. I have not really heard anything about cooling problems on those kind of bikes. Why is this an issue on the M3W, where the engine are quite open-positioned?

It is only an issue when stuck in traffic, motorcycles tend not to sit in traffic jams as they can overtake or thread between cars.

I have only experienced skip fire when stuck in traffic jams or queuing to get into car shows or race meetings.

It seems to work ok but it is very disconcerting and it can't be good for the motor.
