owning a 4/4 4/1978 1600 i really wonder what the exact capacity is for the fuel tank...since i still have no service manual... did a one point some 156 miles and fuel gage was halfway but i dont really have confidence on it till i do know capacity...

35 litres- you will use the second half of the fuel tank much faster than the first due to the odd nature of Morgan fuel gauges!!

@ John....many thanks for info... so range would be around 200 miles then...
Our lotus Europa has also a fuel tank 35 lts.. we have a max. range of 350 a 365 kms... we drove this year to the south of spain... and planned all fuel stops via internet ahead in france, but in spain itself... no website to find for petrol stations locations... very scary at some remote locations..

Have to say that the fuel guage on my Aero S4 goes into free fall after 25%!

The petrol gauge on my Plus 8 goes into feel fall after the needle passes 3/4. I use the the trip counter and start to get worried after 200 miles, have done 225 miles but that not good for my health. I am thinking of fitting a Monit rally trip counter this has a fuel gauge option.

I must say I have always used the 200 mile mark as a guide but never found a real problem with the guage on the S2 other than the difficulty of getting it to read full  I also found on this latest St Tropez sojourn that driving with the roof up males a BIG difference. Since it was torrential rain leaving I had done a whole tank with hood up and managed 245 miles before needing only 41 litres to brim the tank. Roof down then averaged about 225 miles for approximately 44 litres. So nigh on 15-20% higher consumption top down; all cruising at between 90 - 110 Leptons. But then ...... who wants to drive with the top up

John Is the 4 seater tank smaller than a 2 seater then John? My '76 2 seater has a 9 gallon (41 litre) tank, approximately - I'd need to check the running log (at home in the car) but I've got pretty close to that figure on more than one occasion Good to see you on Sunday... Cheers,

According to the Owners Handbook of my 2007 4/4 (which seems to cover the whole model range up to and including the Roadster 2 & 4 seater) the fuel tank capacity is quoted as 55 litres at empty for all models. Anyone brave enough to run dry to find out??   I don't like filling ours as there is always a strong smell in the car. After dumping fuel in a Tesco filling station I had the dealership check it out but it still pongs if filled.

My '98 +4 is allegedly 11 gallons (55 litres). Never got to the stage of putting more than 46 in on a fill up. By then the gauge was nudging 'not a lot' and without a spare can of fuel my nerves were giving up! Usually run over 300 miles before filling - long trips over 330. The '76 definitely has a smaller tank, but I regularly run in excess of 200 miles before filling... Cheers,

I got the original owners' handbook when I bought my 2000 4/4. That states the fuel tank capapcity as 11 Gallons/ 55 litres.
I also have a log book from a 94 model 4/4 which gives the same figures.
I have had the car nearly full a couple of times- the last being in June when we came back from Le Mans and didn't want to get caught either getting into the outskirts of Caen and then being faced with all those credit card only filling stations or then having to look for a garage on the late night run home from Portsmouth and the ferry to South Wales
Like a lot of people, I always have problems with slow filling and/or the 'pong' if it is anywhere near full.
When I first got the car, I did a few fairly basic 'trials' and now almost always go for VeePower. No scientific evidence but have always used it with previous 'non- shopping' cars and the MOG certainly seems to go well on it
